Sezincote is a unique and extraordinary Indian Mogul style house set amidst the Cotswold landscape. The architecture features a central 'onion' dome, minarets, peacock-tail windows, jali-work railings and pavilions.
The house is set within a romantic garden with pools, waterfalls, a grotto, Mogul style details, statues, elephant balustrades and a temple to the Hindu Sun God.
I spent a perfect summer's day there sketching and exploring the gardens. Those studies and sketches formed the preparation for this work completed in my studio.
The painting is essentially a Cotswold or traditional British woodland landscape 'shot-through' with Indian exoticism.
As one astute visitor to my recent exhibition said, "It's like the landscape is formed from Indian Saree silk."
